There is something almost confrontational about this record. It sounds as though somebody dragged folk music through a back alley and handed it back damaged. The voice refuses polish, the guitar feels close enough to touch, and the whole thing has the strange gravity of an object that survived without asking permission.
The guitar playing here feels almost anti-performative. It is the roughness that makes it impossible to ignore.

Most buildings disappear long before they are demolished. They are renovated into anonymity. This one has somehow remained legible: stone, proportion, repair marks, and evidence of use all still visible at once.
The repair marks are the interesting part. Preservation usually tries to erase the fact that preservation happened.
